Hi..I noticed while looking through my American pennies that a lot of cents have the bust touching the rim of these coins..Is this a normal thing for this year..?..Thanks.
This is normal for 1968 cents. You'll also notice that the tops of the letters in "In God We Trust" are very close or touching the rim as well. I THINK this was caused because the master die used to create the dies was getting near the end of it's life and was pretty worn out. In 1969, there was a new master die made, so those coins have the bust and letters further away from the rim.
