I thought I would post a trivia quiz on this cold Sunday morning.
None of the answers to the questions below are unusual varieties or special test strikes. All of the answers are coins that the average collector of 5 cent coins has in their collection or could be procured relatively cheaply.
1) Which year of a 5 cent coin is the only commemorative of a commemorative ?
2) Which 5 cent coin(s) commemorate an event that did not take place in Canada ?
3) Which 5 cent coin reverse is said to have been partially inspired by an American 5 cent coin made 30 years early ?
4) Which year(s) of 5 cent coin(s) where made on two or more different metals ?
5) Which year of a 5 cent coin is a very common "dot" coin ?
6) Which year of a 5 cent coin has the most official variations ?
7) Which 5 cent coin reverse is said to have a secret message imbedded in it and what is the message?
8) Which animal(s) have been portrayed on the 5 cent coins ?
9) Which year for a 5 cent coin was minted with two different reverse designs?
10 Why was a difficult metal such as nickel used to make Canadian 5 cents for nearly 60 years and then finally discontinued ?

For #9 I am going to say 1951 and 2005 each for two different designs in those years. I was also going to say for #9 that 1948 had two different reverse designs - one says 1948, the other 1947 ML. That likely does not count as different designs though.
For #10 I am guessing a switch to nickel in 1922 from silver to nickel as nickel was cheaper even though tougher to work with. Then as was previously stated, nickel got too expensive in recent years.
A fun quiz - I love nickels

You guys did a great job with a final grade of 90%, only 6) did not have a correct answer. My answer list is below: 1) 2005 VE nickel commemorating the 1945 V nickel2) 1751-1951 Isolation of nickel (Sweden) 1952-2002 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (England) 1945-2005 Victory in (Europe) 3) 1943-45 "V" nickel was inspired partially by the American pre-1913 Liberty "V" nickels 4) 1942: nickel & tombac 1951: nickel & chrome plated steel 1999, 2000, 2001, 2006: cupronickel & nickel plated steel 5) 1937 6) 2006 - no logo, 2006 "P" mint mark and 2006 RCM logo 7) 1943-1945 "V" nickel with Morse Code around the rim for "We win when we work willingly " 8) Rabbit, beaver 9) 1751-1951 nickel commemorative and 1951 chrome plated steel beaver 1945-2005 victory commemorative and 2005 beaver 10) Nickel is a considered a Canadian metal. Pure nickel coins, then finally cupronickel were discontinued because of the rising cost of nickel.

For question 6 would the 2003 tie the 2006 with three varieties: the crown, no crown, and the WP? Also the 2000 with the P, no P and the W.

I like the quiz too!
#6: FWIW, 1953 has four varieties. I'm not sure they are all "official" and they are not "easy" to obtain, either. So I'd probably pick 2006 too. There is a kind of dumb "filled 6" variety that year too.
PS: I wouldn't count 1947ML as 1948, since coins bearing last year's date are produced by the millions nearly every year. (See the mint's recent annual reports.)
