I found this half dollar with a weird surface. I think it may be dipped but I can't find a picture of a dipped coin that quite matches it. I also can't figure out why you'd want to dip a clad coin with otherwise minimal value. It's a matte finish with a bit of a sparkle when you look closely and rotate it under a light.

How does the reeded edge look? Color? Is it clad?

Definitely clad. It's identical to the edge on all my other clad halves, though perhaps brighter and shinier than the more worn specimens.

My guess would be etched by acid, and recently. The high points, even the rim, look to be affected.

I wonder why someone would bother given it's just an ordinary clad coin. I found it in a bank roll.
