What's weird to me is how the most pronounced part of the coin is the die cracks. They look almost like solder. it looks legit but I'm not an expert.

---I think it is a fake----Unnatural wear of the die crack at the rim----It's as if the whole coin has been filed down evenly to take away obvious cast marks of the rim.
But---this coin is a scan which give off a weird effect. Not sure until it is weighed.

Another look at the coin convinces me it is a fake---look at CENTS, uneven lettering.
The biggest tell is the right hand leaf sprigs. Not JOINED to each other---as if the sprigs were laid on top of the planchet.
The crown detail is poor--- etc etc
A expert on this forum will confirm my impressions---definite cast marks on the rim !

The left bow upper loop casting is very weak---almost trails into nothing in the field.
The crown inner velvet's foldings do not show at all.
All in all---I need explanations for all of this strangeness---almost feel like buying it to see if it is a fake.
Are there any fake catalogs for the 1858 series?

looks legit to me... Trying to counterfeit dies cracks would be a waste of their time as not all would have them..So to try to put them there is useless....In my opinion she loos real enough

I agree with artdio, looks real. The disjointed features and lack of detail are quite typical, likely due to a tired punch.

The die crack on the right matches up perfectly with one of the examples on Coins and Canada: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...e-crack&id=1
