Randy, I would have to agree and on another note why does this coin appear to have no detail at all in the hair ?

IMO, from the sellers pics the coin looks neither harshly cleaned nor MS64.

I'm thinking of taking in Brian's and Geoff's auction this weekend, if I make it I'll try to remember to ask... I'm curious too.

How is it possible for a coin that is "Harshly Cleaned" to obtain a grade of MS64?

Never saw anything over MS60 cleaned before. Maybe it was dipped to excess.

Been a day since Zonad posted this coin, I can`t restrain myself any longer. While we snigger and shake our heads at the grade this coin received, some poor sap is very likely to lose a large portion of the $1500 paid for this coin. We`ve all heard the spiel given by dealers at shows or B&Ms as to why a coin in an ICCS holder is a wise purchase. It`s a sad fact that most collectors don`t heed the maxims,"caveat emptor" or "buy the coin not the holder", no matter how often we iterate them here, to compensate for their lack of knowledge, they put their faith in the hands of TPGs and reputable dealers. IMO both ICCS and the dealer are complicit in the buyer of this coin's future disappointment. They both know full well how this coin would grade if submitted raw to PCGS or NGC, and what its value would be. I believe it was irresponsible for ICCS to give a harshly cleaned coin a 64,no matter what offsetting attributes it has, and the dealer should have given Mr. Cornwell a wake up call rather than try to squeeze a dollar out of this fiasco. Sorry for the rant, but I just couldn't hold back my opinion.

@DBM....keep on ranting....that coin reflects (pardon the pun) poorly on both the seller and grader.....unfortunately every collector/buyer makes expensive mistakes....I've totally given up on buying coins on ebay because I need to see the coin in person....It's somewhat different with certified paper money and hockey cards, because there isn't luster or cleaning issues....and centering & corners, which affects eye appeal of cards and notes, is readily apparent.
