1939 florin purchashed of ebay 370920544298 I had a post on here earlier asking for peoples opinions on a die crack on florin before I sent it away. Got told was to many marks for uncirculated grading yet I have just got it back from pcgs number 28786989 as a ms-62 unc grading but unfortunately die crack was not registered but hey for $250 cant complain.

And PCGS should be ashamed of that grade. Looking at it, there is no way it should be higher than AU-53

Once again, it proves that these foreign grading companies still can't get it right with Australian coins. Some poor bugger is going to be ripped off when purchasing this coin in the future

Any comments would be appreciated I did go over this coin hard before sending it away and yes it does have heavy bag marks as you can see from the pics but as for wear I couldnt distinguish any as it has full orb doesn't look like any wear to emu's neck or kanga.Hairline was a little iffy but couldnt say for certain with my experience that there was wear to it. If you could give me some comments as to why it would only pull a unc grading that would be appreciated as the more knowledge you have the better off you will be thank you for your comments in advance.

Im looking at the ebay pic because you can easily blow it up. The roo and the emu both have light wear on them, the kangaroo shows a scratch that starts from his knee and runs halfway down his leg, You say that his cheek has raised lumps but I do find it hard to believe that ALL of them are raised. Giving it benefit of the doubt with the kings cheek, what I described on the other side of the coin is enough to drag it down to a AU-53 (almost Uncirculated)

Cheers and thanks for your information I have only been collecting for about 5 years so still learning the ropes. Another quick question is you say pcgs cant grade aussie coins properly and most people on these forums tend to discredit apcgs (only aussie grading company we have now) well then who do I trust for a accurate grade of australian coins? I have found apcgs to be quite good to be honest(they seam to be very consistent graders only my opinion) but if I go by these forums from what people are saying that have a lot more knowledge than I do then where do I get them slabbed ? Pcgs are well known and ngc looks to grade slightly higher so for the seller this is good thing but what about the collector who only wants accurate gradings for there own collection. I have a extensive collection that are all prof slabbed in slabbed coin albums fro good viewing so that reason and the fact they are protected from the elements is why I prefer to have my coins done prefessionally. I hope this post can activate some discussion on this matter cheers

I haven't used the aussie company but I'm all for an Australian company grading coins. I don't buy NGC slabbed coins because they are overgraded, When I purchase PCGS coins, I use the theory of dropping one and a half grades lower than what they state, which normally brings the coin inline with our grading standards. What I'm wondering is, if you have used the Australian company and happy with what you have been getting, why did you send it to PCGS?

I have sent a few coins to pcgs as this is the first time I have used them for grading my own coins(have brought many of ebay and various websites) and wanted to see the difference in there grades. As it was the results were very mixed for the small amount of coins that I have sent (although pcgs did grade higher overall). With coin collecting as you know its all about knowledge so to get some coins graded and then regraded by pcgs is a good indicator on the diff between the 2 companys grading. Have used apcgs many times and will continue to use them as they look to be very accurate when it comes to australian coins. Pcgs do grade higher very simple fact but they also claimed 2 of my coins were cleaned when they were not picked up by apcgs as cleaned so for me this was a good learning exercise and I stil cannot truly say which company is better all I can say is that pcgs is world recognised and for that reason there coins sell for more.

Did apcgs grades these 2 coins a lot lower because they were cleaned?

Apcgs graded the 2 coins au-55 and vf+ pcgs graded them almost unc details(cleaned) and other coin ef details(cleaned) so grades were fairly close. I personally don't think either were cleaned I couldn't see any distinguishing wipe/hairline scratch marks but I'm just a newbie compared to the experience of either grading companys. I'm not here to say which is a better company I did this for my own knowledge to tell the diff between the companys.

Personally I prefer apcgs they are more consistent for aussie coins and as I dont sell many of my coins even my doubles and triple I tend to horde for myself, if I was gonna sell them for a profit it would be pcgs all the way any coin in a pcgs holder will always pull more value.

I only deal in rare and valuable coins which have been all slabbed. Would I try apcgs on future purchases? Absolutely, I have been looking at the grades for the coins on ebay and have been impressed. I see the theory of PCGS for profit but that could easily change in the future, especially if this Australian company picks up momentum in the aussie market (which is a tough market that a lot of collectors do not like slabbed coins).
