Hi all,
I work as a bank teller in the US. Had a customer with a Canadian $1 coin, dated 1964. It's slightly smaller than a US silver dollar and has a finish similar to US proof coinage, albeit toned. I have Loonies and Toonies in my collection, but not a Canadian dollar of this vintage. What would this thing be made of? Silver perhaps?

I will post pics later on this evening.

Yup you got yourself a canadian silver dollar... our dollars are made with 80% silver and that will be roughly .6 oz.. if you got that at the bank for face value.. you did well!

0.6oz ASW. 80% silver. Could be Proof Like if it has very shiny background fields. Take a loupe or a microscope and check the artist initials T.S. on the reverse to see if you have the No Dot variety which is somewhat more valuable in the highest grade. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ar-1953-1986

From the reflections it looks like a neglected PL strike.

It looks much nicer in person. I haven't got a good setup for taking pictures of coins; just using a 7 year old Canon Powershot camera on the closeup mode.
