I have an oppertunity to fill a kEy date hole in my "V" Nickel album with this coin. My question is how much does the hole take from the value?

Ouch thats a pretty big hole. And a decent conditioned Key! I honestly have no idea how much it will erase the value on that coin, but, for the right price, it would be great for a budget hole filler.

For a lot of collectors, the hole makes it-----totally unaceptabel......a no...no..no..

I'm in the "unacceptable" crowd. A coin like this would begin to nag at me a few days after I bought it, and within a few months, buyers remorse would set in. Not long after, I would end up selling it at a loss.

If I were buying that for a hole filler, considering it is a key I'd take it and not be too unhappy, at this point I'd take a 1939-D or a 1950-D washer coin with bad road rash.
That is a nasty hole there, I have a 1 dollar gold coin with the same problem, If key date doesn't help does content?
I'm betting silver would be at or below spot with a hole like that (actually my LCS has a Morgan with a hole and they want the same as the rest of their cull bin) but how much does this type of thing hurt gold coins?

That hole would bug me to death. Answering your question on price, it looks to me as XF without the hole. If I were to pick it up, it would have to be at FMV for good, around $450.

Any coin to fill the gap is always good, the beauty of it is that you can always upgrade in the future

Personally, I'd rather have a hole in my album than a hole in my coin regardless of the date or condition.
But that's just me.

The hole in your hole filler doesn't bother me, I understand how difficult it is to get one of those on a tight budget. It is better than my cracked out 1886 V nickel. As for what you should pay for it, that is difficult to ascertain. Assume that at some point in the future, you will be able to upgrade and can sell this coin. What would you sell it for? That may help you come up with an offer. If it were me, I would start at half of G4 money as my offer.

IF that was just a normal, low valued coin, I would almost spend it for fun. HOWEVER, it is on the rather expensive side and not one easily replaced. IF it was mine, I'd surely be bothered by that hole. With not a lot to loose, I'd try to find a jewler that could possibly fill the hole and smooth it out. On the Obverse, fixing the little star would or should be easy. Unfortuately on the Reverse, fixing the word Cents would not be to easy. Not sure how much they would charge for that, and naturally it would still be a damaged coin, but for a hole filler, would look a lot better than one with a hole.

I wouldn't mind owning it....for a "good" price. I'd probably buy it for $50 or less. More and it would start to bother me as a waste of money.

It's a key date. If I,could get it for 20-25% of the FMV of an undamaged coin, I might go for it. In this case, a couple hundred bucks might be worth to fill that hole until something better comes along.

I agree with the half of G4 value in this case. That is where I would feel comfortable purchasing it at. I don't mind the hole, and if you can fill the spot for less than what you would be able to otherwise (and in this case you get a much more detailed coin than buying a genuine coin at the same price) so I would definitely go for it. Nice holey hole filler!

I wouldn't pay much for it. If I could get it very cheap, I would be tempted to start a holed coin type set.
