Wanted one for my type set and this one seemed to have nice planchet quality and was priced right for $40. Photo taken under two jansco lights, but my photography skills are limited. Opinions on grade appreciated. Thanks!

vf 35/xf 40
May just be the lighting but seems to have a little shine to it that makes me think it may have been treated with something at some point

I think I need to diffuse the lighting more. It is a touch darker and bit really shiny in hand.

40 is not too far out of line. I try to buy them for 20 to 25 in vf for the 1851,2,3,4 years. Some of the 1840 years are a bit more.pricey in nice shape. In XF the price would go up bu ten or 15 dollars I would say.

For $40 you did fine. Youll find some that are more expensive and some that are less expensive. A couple bucks either way isn't a big deal imo if you like it.

I'm good with the XF40 on it. It's a great start to a very interesting (and addicting) set... Sooner or later those back loaded Draped Bust gals will rear their pretty heads.

nice coin, price is good. 99% of the time someone's first large cent has a problem (and is consequently cheaper than yours). higher price and a better coin - good job.
