It is a Maria Theresa Thaler. These are famous coins and many re-strikes have been produced since 1780. Some members here know quite a bit about these. Here is a link for some more information

Looks like this one's been drilled and plugged, as well as stickytaped. Probably only worth bullion value (there's a touch over 3/4 of an ounce of silver there).

There are many variants to this coin, from what I can make out from the images this coin appears to be one of the later variants from @1853-present. I would say this coin is circa 1900-1920

So with silver worth between $35-$45 an ounce, this coin is worth approximately $30?

And why would someone have drilled a hole through it? To make a necklace?

As of Friday silver is $13.05 US per OZ.

Rather too large of a coin for a necklace. It looks like there may three points of attachment to some kind of jewelry on the reverse. It could have been part of a money clip.
