How badly does the incuse grot on the neck affect the grading?

I don't think the grot on the neck affects the grade it's still a GVF/VF coin because the grot isn't covering important design.

However, the verdigris grot on both sides reduces the value, as do the edge knocks and the cut over the eye.

So, if I were selling this, I would say
"George IV halfpenny 1827 GVF/VF with verdigris on neck and in 2 places in field on reverse with a bit touching E of DEF, a few minor edge knocks and an old cut above the king's eye."

Are you going to sell it on ebay ?

I always wondered if you were to sell a coin with verdigris should you treat it a bit first with something like verdicare and then ship it or just leave it entirely up to the buyer...I personally stay away from ancients b/c of the fear of verdigris but wouldn't completely rule out getting a treated coin under the rt precautions. I do like your coin BTW. Don't come across that one very often.

Pertinax, sorry I missed your reply, thank you.
I'm not planning on selling at present, for items from my own collection I prefer to swap. Which is why I like to be sure of grading before I enter into a deal with another collector.
Hflirn, I think the decision on treatment should rest with the buyer. As for treatment with Verdicare, I believe it is still too expensive to buy in the UK, so have been unable to test it yet.
