I'm looking at the first lady gold pieces offered by the mint. They do nothing for me. Is anybody impressed by these coins?

I'm liking the 1 oz AGE and the 1 oz Buffalo. If you were buying just one, which one would you choose?

If I had the money and I could only buy one - it would be the 1oz Buffalo. It is beautiful!

I would go for a Canadian Maple leaf because of its purer content, but as far as something US, I would go for the AGE.

The Buffalo has the same purity as the Canadian Maples - .9999 - except for the brand new .99999 Maples. Those sell for a premium, and are just a gimmick, in my opinion. An ounce of gold is an ounce of gold, and I doubt you'll recoup the premium when you sell.

I believe the mint charges more for Buffalos than for Gold Eagles. Also, keep in mind the pure gold coins are easy to damage, and should be kept in air-tites or some sort of hard protective holder if possible. Gold Eagles are 22K gold and are more sturdy - that may or may not be a factor for you.

All that being said, if you're buying one to enjoy, it's mostly personal preference as to which design you like best. I like the Gold Eagles better than Buffalos myself. I would recommend against paying too much for any one of them, and would probably get whichever one was least expensive.

I like the buffs...but certainly wouldn't hesitate to add an eagle to my collection if the right deal came along.

I own both the eagle and buffalo. Personally if I had to make a choice, I would have to go with the proof buffalo. It really is a beautiful coin.

So far I am not too impressed with the first lady coins. I am considering purchasing an Unc Jefferson coin. Other than Jefferson, I don't think I'll purchase any other First Lady coins.

Chalk me up as another one not interested or impressed with the first lady coins in the slightest.

I'm thinking the First Lady pieces look more like souvenirs, I'm going to pass on them. For that matter the Presidential dollars fall into that category too. They just don't make the grade. It was a good idea but the mint fell short on design.

Now on the other hand, the Buffaloes and the AGEs get me excited. I'll probably end up getting an '08 Buffalo to go with my '07. Maybe in a few years I'll have a small herd. Too bad they're not going to issue the fractional denominations, those would have been cool. More collectible too than $825 a throw too.

Oh well.

The first lady pieces are good for one reason, flipping. Then you can use the money to buy real coins ;)

I myself do not like the new baby size dollars, the first lady dollars and also not a big fan of the State Quarters. AS to the first lady coins I would rather invest my money in Buggy Whips.

I too would go for the Buffalo. The Presidential dollars
and first spouse don't do anything for me either. The coins and designs are unflattering.
