I was shocked to see it that low too, they usually reject offers in that range outright. Maybe theyd had it for a while and just wanted to be done with it though. They also could have just gotten it cheap and still made a good amount on that. The coast coin one some of that brightness is the picture but that will be one that looks like it came right off the mint. Some people like that look some done. For that money Id prefer a different look but there are people who would prefer that. The CAC usually have a premium, some things its a lot on high end coins others its minimal. Usually they are more liquid though. In some ways that one did get a big premium as it sold for about 50 more than an ANACS AU 50 did on ebay, but at the same time the PCGS slab is responsible for that too. Prices were way down on ebay last summer and fall and are still kind of in a recovery period. The old large and Half Cents seem to be hot right now from the high profile auctions and bust coins are getting pricey too. Barbers seem to be under the radar some on ebay at least which I believe is partly because of the absurd asking prices on the key date stuff so none of it really ever sells. That said though aside from top grades youll see CAC make the biggest difference for coins where theres a huge price jump to the next grade or over a huge price jump. Like if a F15 is 200 but a VF is 800 itll close that gap a little on the F coin just like it would strengthen the price of the VF one being over such a large jump. It varies from series to series too. Some things are really hard to get stickered like high quality Ikes while other things most coins would sticker. So theres a lot of variables in play but overall its better to have the sticker than not have it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1892-Barber...em19e941e6eewhat do you guys think of this coin? do you feel it is accurately graded? It looks good for the grade to me but I'm really inexperienced when it gets into the mid ms ranges. My initial feelings towards the coin are positive. It's actually kind of tempting. I wonder what his bottom dollar is.

I've noticed a lot of ms 64 pcgs 1893 o's seem to be around right now for sale. dlrc just lowered the price of theirs to a bit over $900. How often do you guys see 1892 s come up in the ms range?

the seller of the 1895 au 53 cac/pcgs Barber dime got back to me. it seems it is gone, sold at the Atlanta ANA. alas perhaps it is for the best. I got to thinking, if I wait 2 1/2 months longer than the 1 1/2 I was thinking of doing saving up money I could get a ms 64 instead most likely. a 65 would add on another 2 1/2 months but that's also something I'm mulling over. I know the old advice is to buy the best you can afford and I want my next purchase to be something special and the 65's seem a lot more elusive than the 64's. 66 is pretty much straight up out of my price range. the ones I saw that sold went for 5k+. Someday I plan on getting a 1895 o in that price range but it's probably not going to be for a while, so a normal 1895 in that region is just too far for me.

Waiting until you find something you love is a good idea. Check out the pcgs population report for them, itll give you a good idea and how often you should expect to see any of them. Waiting is usually a good idea, but there are a couple dates you might not see again for quite some time if one pops up in the range you want. The end of the month though is the big baltimore show which may lead to some more getting listed next month after the show grades come back

What do you think of this coin here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/19104534136....m1439.l2649I feel like it was fairly conservatively graded and I thought its a decent vg 10 with an outside chance of coming back a f12, a very weak f12 imo, but I've seen crazier things. After looking at it in hand I feel my original thoughts were correct. the tiny price difference between 8 and 10 doesn't make it worth the time to send it in of course but I think I did alright with it. It was a stepping stone to this larger purchase I am now planning for in the future and it satiated my urge to knock out a slabbed key date enough to start saving for the big one. Don't be afraid to be honest.

With how tight PCGS has been lately theres probably a better change of G6 than F12 if regraded, but VG is the right grade to me and wouldnt argue with an 8 or 10. Reverse looks like an F but usually the obverse wins out on the split grades. I do like the look of it. Looks like theres a touch of color and I always like the dark fields where the heads lighter and pops off the coins like that.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1908-O-BARB...em232f485fffdo you think this coin is properly graded? do you think a cac sticker would be given to it and would it bring a premium with it? This seller does have some other cac'ed coins and the difference between a 1908 o 64 and 65 is at least $500 from sold listings from the past few years I looked at, so your previous comment about why isn't a coin that a cac could help not caced pops into my head? does it mean he likely tried and it didn't work?

My guess would be that one didnt sticker. The more expensive a coin is and higher a grade the harder it is to get the cac. Thats a coin cac was designed for and I would be surprised if they havent reviewed it already. That said he does have a lot of CAC stuff, but I cant say for certain if all his high value coins go or not like with some other sellers.
I do know cac doesn't like spotting like the reverse has though.

heritage has an interesting 1892 up now. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=11211A part of me likes it and another doesn't. Do you think the toning on it will bring a premium? To me the ebay one I linked to before has a slightly sharper strike. do you think it would sticker? It's a bit tempting to try for it but not nearly enough for me to actually do so. 1892's are common and I can get a nice one at my leisure at a later time most likely. I don't see them just drying up and none being available in the future.

Does the Heritage coin have signs of a die clash? I read they are common on 1892. Is that a die chip above the 2?
The areas where I might be seeing them is in front of her neck above the dark tone spot and one between the knot and the back of her neck. Of course, my eyes may be seeing things that aren't there too.

Lol I wish.
That thing is stunning though. If I ever had that kind of money to spend on a coin it would be a coin like that.
The 1800s O dimes are really dry right now. Hopefully that will change soon

err, 2 months I mean. I forget we are in march already. that 1896 o would take up my coin budget for the next 7 1/2 -8 years. I don't know if I could even retain interest after 5 or 6 years of no purchases. I an however leaning towards waiting 7 months and getting a $2500 or so range coin for my next purchase. I realized I can take the money I have now and roll search with it to entertain myself while I save up the rest of the money I need.

It may take 7 or 8 years to find one that nice again lol. Thats exactly what I do though when I cant find something I really want instead of settling Ill sort though modern stuff or whatever and not really spend anything while passing the time for the right coin to come along. Just save up for this lol http://www.ebay.com/itm/1895-BARBER...em2a38967663
