lol, I'd have to wait almost 11 years. :p By then I hope to have close to a complete ms Barber dime collection.
Have you seen this 1896 o yet?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1896-O-BARB...em58ad0024a8
If I'm not mistaken this one has been listed more than once, I'm pretty sure I've seen it more than once before. The price isn't too bad for it but personally I'm not interested because 1. It's not in the grade range I want and 2. the coin doesn't have a lot of eye appeal to me. the details are actually a bit better than id expect for the grade but overall it just doesn't look like the coin for me.

That one has been up a few times. I've actually considered it a couple times just because its basically the only option. If it was a little cheaper id probably just buy it until I found one I really really loved.

Its not a bad coin at all but id really like a vf 35 or better. I might just end up getting that to fill it since its not looking like any other options are going to be appearing any time soon.

interesting 1897 o on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1897-O-Barb...em27e00f7172
the reverse looks pretty nice, looks like a nice strike to me, the detail on the second leafs veins is quite nice imo. Sadly, the obverse kills it for me. the toning doesn't appeal to me and looks to be hiding some scratches and dings.
If the obverse was better I'd be tempted but I think id still hold out and save for a ms.

do you think this coin was cleaned at some point? why would that black crud be on only the insides of the letters and other sheltered areas where the design meets the field?
Otherwise looks like a nice coin. price is pretty low right now but I think will end up at least doubling by the end.(as I'm writing this it is at $55.)

Yep, I like it but the hair detail is pretty weak. not the 1895 o for me. I hope to meet her in about 7-10 years after 3 years of saving. you think in 7 years a low ms will go for about 11k? I hope so, I'm kind of scared of price increases.

Could go either way I think. Theres always ups and downs depending on the economy and neither of us are buyers in the grade ranges immune to that from the big money chasing top grades so could be way up, could be flat just depends on how things are otherwise. Last year was a great year to buy, this year isn't looking like itll be as buyer friendly so far.

All you can really do is buy quality pieces and hope for the best in that regard. They arent minting them anymore though so just hope no hoards of any dates you have are found lol

I heard ngc doesn't attribute the 1893/2 anymore but even if they did I don't see the bar on the bottom of the 3. truth be told I'm not going to require it for myself to complete the set but I wouldn't mind getting one if it's a nice clear example. I remember david lawrences son posting on the pcgs board about most of them attributed ones came from about a half roll of ms that a friend of his dad(david Lawrence) came upon and showed to david who got ngc to start attributing them and that most of the ones he'd seen seemed to come from that original "hoard".
Don't buy a 1895 o anytime soon baseball. I'm going to find about 30 gem mint state examples for $1 a piece at a rummage sale from some old lady who got them from her father. about 4.6 years from now. then again, I'm going to release em 1 at a time slowly so you might be ok. :p
(I got to be in for some good luck with all the bad that's come my way lately. :p)

Lol I was planning on doing the exact same thing in about a week or two. That and ask the bank for a bag of dollars and get a bag of Seated Liberty dollars instead lol.

It honestly doesn't surprise me stuff like that would be found all at once. At this point its either collectors or a freak roll of something someone saved for any new high grade stuff or new varieties. It would make sense that a variety would be rolled together at the same time.

If the mint allowed more stuff like that to get out now modern coins would probably be more popular.

Just dont go finding any 1896 o rolls unless you want to share them. Actually with whats available now maybe a roll or two getting some on the market wouldnt be the worst thing in the world lol.

Id actually really like to get one nice cam proof too. Its a design that looks fantastic like that imo

Whats your best score so far basebal?
Here's my worst purchase.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-Barber...p=true&rt=nc
I often have 2 windows on ebay and was comparing some coins and I bid on the wrong one and didn't notice it for like 2 days. I could of probably gotten the seller to cancel my bid but at that point I figured id just eat my mistake. boy was the seller happy when I payed, absolutely glowing feedback from him. $5 for a cleaned 1909 plus $3 shipping. I thought it was a cleaned 1909 s and bid $7 max. the cleaning was a lot harsher than the pics made it look so even if it was a 1909 s I don't think I would of been too happy.
best purchase for me is hard to say, I've gotten some nice deals but nothing screaming. one of the ones I was most excited about was a solid ag3 1897 s Barber dime I won for $1 plus shipping of $1.50. It was my first lowball bid to win the item. Never got it though, received a ripedp envelope held together by a sticker from my local postmaster saying it was received w/o contents. Sad day but oh well. seller refunded me within a few hours of my contacting him and didn't even seem to question it oddly. I did send a bunch of pics of the envelope and the intact seals from the post office so maybe that was enough for him but I've always kind of wondered if somehow he got the best of me as he didn't want to sell it for that low price.
I last month got a 1900 o vg for $17 but I also got a polished 1902 o that looked nothing like the pic for $7 from the same seller.(ive done business with him before and normally the coins look better in hand than in the pics but not the 1902 o)so part of the thrill of winning the 1900 o was tempered by the 1902 o. it was so bad the old lady commented about it not being original when I was initially looking it over.
Oh well, if you ever come across a heavily polished 1902 o with strong fingerprints on both sides it might mean I let this one go. I left my mark on history I'm kind of curious as to how long it will be till they are noticeable.

There is a 1943 d copper in a change jar in the back of an older gentlemans closet that will be dumped when he passes waiting for me out there. so if you come across it let me know and i'll double your investment for finding it for me. heck, i'll give you 100 times it, I'm feeling generous.

I dont have any good dime stories. My two best finds were both moderns. A 5 dollar 68 D Kennedy half I sent in and got a MS 66+ which I sold for over 400 dollars and a 2 dollar 1981 S SBA that got a MS 66. My best barber story would be the 96 O VF 25 half I actually got for book price in an ebay auction imagine that lol. It CACd too when I sent it in.

Other than that though I've been looking for that stupid 96 O dime for so long I dont really have any good stories for them. Its not like I can just get rolls or bags of them to sort and cherry pick either lol.
