These can be used anywhere you can put an image! Forum sigs, Email sigs, web sites, etc. Knock yourselves out! They update on their own every 30 minutes whether you like it or not. You don't have to do anything else once its in place.

I need to figure out what all this RSS/XML stuff is about. Can you point me in the direction of a comprehensive educational site? Do I need any additional software? Apologies for my ignorance!
