Hey everyone I found a box full of old coins and I was doing some research on the Indian Head coins I found. Now during this research I've found mixed opinions on the actual value of the coins obviously it mostly comes down to the collector but I've found some very beautiful red and gold toned coins such as the one from 1897 pictured below I've seen the color scematic ones sell for high prices is this specific one worth anything. Also I am not sure whether the 1903 coin is damaged or its a defect any opinions? Thanks for the replies everyone. NOTE:here is a few more pics of indian heads I found.

to CCF. The 03 is PMD and all the ones you posted look well worn and would not have much of a premium. Check ebay sold prices and look here http://www.numismedia.com/

I agree. These are all common date, low grade (1903 with PMD) IHC and would only be worth a couple of dollars at most. Freshly minted IHC are red in color, but as they age and are exposed to the elements they tone to a red brown and eventually a brown color. Usually for a given grade of coin, the red carries a premium over the other two colors and the red brown carries a premium over a brown. Actually though many IHC collectors think that the red browns and brown are more attractive than the reds. It all comes down to personal preference.

I suspect that the 1897 and 1903 have been cleaned. Unfortunately, these aren't worth much more than face value. The 1905 looks to be the best of the lot for the pictures you posted. As others have noted, browse the online auctions and get yourself a rough estimate. Good luck!

They're worth about a dollar each, give or take 50 cents depending on where you sell them

The purply color is often seen on coins that have been in Whitman albums over a long period of time. I agree with previous comments- very common dates, some are damaged and/or cleaned. The 1905 seems original and might grade as high as CF (hard to say- the picture is very small). If so, full-on retail price might be $5. A dealer likely won't buy just 1 coin like this, but if they did the offer would be a fraction of $5.

I noticed you said you found a box full of coins. Just what are the others? How many? What condition? All US or foreign? Need more details. And as to prices. Lots different from trying to sell a coin than there is in buying one. Also, coin prices are sort of depending on where you try to sell them. For example on ebay, you might get $10 for a coin, at a coin store, same coin $5, to other collectors, almost anything.

The 1903 is damage. On the 1897 it may just be shadows and marks, but it can't hurt to check for the "1 in neck". On some coins, there is a misplace digit--see below.
