I don't think it's a Greek coin. Do you have a picture by chance?

Do you have a way to post a picture of the coin? It would really help a lot in identifying this for you.

A-ha!

http://www.joelscoins.com/sets.htm

quote:
Mongolia is the ancestral home of both the Huns and the famous Ghenghis Khan, whose domain stretched from China to Poland. Since then it has been alternately dominated by the Chinese and the Russians. It formally renounced communism in February 1992 and has been trying to restructure its economy and government ever since. Because the country is so isolated, being located in a high, dry region tucked between China and Russia, its coins are hard to acquire. This 7 coin set, dating from 1970 to 1991 includes the 1,2,5,10,15,20 and 50 Mongo coins. The reverse of the coins features a horseman, a reflection of the countries heritage when the Mongolian Horsemen were the fear of the world.

Sounds like you have a Mongolian 10 Mongo coin.

Impressive, Roman!

Mad Monk, you may want to invest in a cheap scanner if you have other coins that you want help with. They are pretty easy to use and the pics help us be able to provide value and grade info for you.

OK now that one we definitely need a picture of. Nothing comes to mind with that description. Without skimming every page in my book I don't think I can locate it for you.

Some thoughts on the second one...

The best I could come up with on short notice is this one from Tunisia.

If that's not it, then can I ask if the "5" in the "50" looks "normal", or more like a sideways "2"? If the latter, then the number could be "25" in Arabic numerals. Haven't had much luck finding anything else that matches.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

with the exception of the brass color, it sounds like it might be an Israeli 50 prutah coin.

Does it look like http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/coin.php?image=img6/94-13a&desc=Israel%20km13.2a%2050%20Prutah%20(1954)%20nickel-clad%20steel
