Can anybody help me to find out what this is one my coin Is it an error? A Normal thing? From being pulled out of circulation? The circle is above all lettering and numbers about 1-1.5mm away from the edges raise, all the way around the coin , at the bottom of her neck . A perfect dark colour grey led look circle all around the coins edging around 1-1.5mm. So meaning it's not the coins edge and it's noticeable more noticeable in life then the pic also just need info on it thanks! :) Any help would be mostly appreciated also have a 1988 2$ coin With an obvious crack in the obverse side through the queens face and what does the "HH" marks mean on the aboriginals stomach Any help or information on that would be appreciated too if anyone out there Can help thanks :) -australian coin newbie

Hi Brandon & The 1984 $1 you hold is a common effect The exact cause is still not narrowed down other than to(Pencil Date) coin's. There are some recent Post's about these coin's here. Your $2 look's like a "Lamination Flaw" (Metal Contamination) Can you please take a "Macro Shot" (Closer) of this Coin just to see what we are looking at? The HH are (Where) the Engraver's Initials. I think. Until they were removed a Year or two down the track buy I don't know why. I will have to read Awildeheart's Link! jpl..

The 1984 $1, could be thrown back into the Pond as this is not a True Variety/Error. And as for the 1988 $2, Well that's up to the individual to Decide if they like the Coin? Not worth much having a Small Crack a $2 maybe. But a Split planchet is also a "Metal Flaw" but a way Bigger Error indeed! I collect my Lamination Flaw's as I like the Art of Tearing Metal. jpl.. Ps, A couple of mine .

The thing I like about Laminations are that they are unique, you never see two quite the same. I agree re the 1984, nothing about it that makes it collectable.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

During recent noodling I discovered an "extreme" version of the 1984 "Circular Die" error? I have attached a picture. I have not seen it this extreme in over 3 years of noodling. Any explanation about how this "error" could have been produced would be appreciated Squire

Wilson, I would say that coin is heavily circulated, and no more.

Would this be a better version of the aforementioned "circular die error"?
