Quote: This is what I currently do. One day I just may crack them out though. I could only be happy with the actual coin in the hole. My OCD would not allow me to substitute it. So which one did you free, the mint set, proof set, or the slab? Either way, Happiness!

Good call. I say that because it would be the easiest. Cutting as opposed to cracking.

You might want to give the small date an acetone bath now that it's out.
The '70 mint sets have PVC and these do haze or tarnish over time if they were left in the set for long. Most of them will come out as fresh as new.
If you haven'rt done this before be sure to ask for advice or practice on junk coins first.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I faced a similar dilemma: seven Barber dimes in slabs. Seven holes in the album. So six of the seven I cracked, and the dimes are 'home!' But the seventh is an 1895-O AU 58 PCGS which passed through Heritage. It has a pedigree, and the coin has no equal in that grade. Although some must exist somewhere. That remains in plastic, somewhat like protective custody. Has to. The labels are in the album. I look at it this way: When the time comes to sell, ANYONE who prefers plastic does NOT deserve these dimes!
