I realize some tellers at banks are challenged when requesting for rolls/boxes/unique coins etc..

Has anyone ever wrote an email or talked face to face with the branch manager to try to establish a relationship in getting rolls, or being able to order boxes, old bills or saving particular coins they get (ike's or halves for example)?

Any success stories or denials?

The Wells Fargo where I bank is quite used to my asking for straps of ones/twos/fives. I tell them I'm a collector, which I am, but I don't volunteer that I'm getting these bills for my Where's George activity.

They are also used to my asking for small head hundreds, fifties, and the like.....they keep a lookout for me.

This is something that's developed over the course of a few visits. Things were slow so I explained the hobby aspects of money and that the bills they sell me are re-sold to a guy I know at the swap meet (not a lie, either). And, the lead teller recently ordered a box of half dollars for me.

Take the time to get to know your tellers, and work with them. It'll pay off.

I'm 6'1"... I wear a 13 foot multicolored scarf and Viet Nam era Air Force Issue Artic snow boots... as to hair and beard... think 4th season Star Trek: The Next Generation - WORF!

THEY KNOW ME

I went into one branch today and the head teller of that branch said "WHAT, no coins?" I was picking up not dropping off. For some reason I forgot my account number today, as I was struggling with it I said my name and she said I know your name but putting the account number in is easier

I saw a sign once that said "bring your dog in" and they do have dog biscuits, on the counter mostly for people to take home. So I have threatened to bring in my cat... once the weather gets better I will... he's 13+ pounds, long white hair and 3 foot long from paws to tail tip (when sitting like a Sphinx) while in town he rides on my shoulder and I heard one lady say once, under her breath, at the pet store, "That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!"

My dad was a local politician and my mom is a wall flower!
SO...I am an outgoing introvert that is completely shy and totally gregarious... a very weird combo.

My shy side is now saying I got too gregarious

To sum up YES get to know them, and making it formal is not needed. When the teller I was talking to went to the vault I started talking to the other tellers about the weather and other finds(they were not busy) ... I said the rain drain from the roof was blocked and pissing out water from the side INTO the path to get into the bank... she agreed that was a very accurate word when she saw it (She's the one that just got engaged... talk to them). We were supposed to get freezing rain but the 36 degree temp made it less frozen and more rain.

I had asked months ago what they do with Canadian and other foreign coins they get in rolls, they said they toss them in the GARBAGE!

So today I got:

West Side lanes Bowling token
20 cent from New Zeland
10 Kronur from Iceland

FREE! ! ! !

plus 2 boxes of pennies, a box of dimes and a box of nickels... AND $100 in quarters... and they always wish me LUCK

if you can get the head teller on board with what you are doing, then you can drop that person's name if a teller is ever questioning you. I've done this a few times and their attitudes change very quickly. Then, in the future, only new tellers may need this treatment done lol.

Banks don't care for roll hunters. I never mention collecting unless I have to, and I keep in mind this is a bank, not a coin shop. I agree that it's important to develop and maintain relationships with the head teller, but not to the point that it becomes a marriage proposal and you are now strapped with a mortgage, two kids, diapers (oops sorry-going off topic here..)

Ask the branch manager? Oh my boss?! I'm lucky where I'm coworkers with tellers, but basically best friends. The manager, she's ehhh, lets just say she doesn't really care but she doesn't see the point. The tellers don't either but they think its neat when I find something old.

If you can get a relationship with the head teller (or whoever is in charge of the vault which sometimes varies) you should do well, or if you ever have to do a loan or something sit with the branch manager and bring it up at some point. Sorry for the horrible run on sentences. My grade school english teacher wouldn't be too pleased.
