Very nice eagle. The mint is making a lot of beautiful animal coins of canada. Caribou, bear, chipmunk, beaver, eagle, sheep, and more Really strong on eagles this year though. More of an American thing isn't it? And my second favorite coin... The totally freaked out, who knows what he'll do next, preen me or die.....Osprey.

Xanonite that coin reminds me of how my bird looks while molting. I love the new Dollar. I'll probably pick the set up.

Nice coin, but I think a loonie should have a loon on it.

I'm glad all loonies are not just loons - that would be boring. The variety helps create collections.

Four other loonies aren't loons this year. They are part of special uncirculated sets:
Doves (wedding) Stork (baby) Presents (birthday) Leaf (Oh Canada)

The variety of birds on the specimen loonies make them much more attractive to collect, at least for me. I also appreciate there is little overlap with the birds they use for the Birds of Canada coins. Speaking specifically about this year's coin, as Rezin asked, I think the Ferruginous Hawk rocks! It's a spectacular raptor and, moreover, ferruginous refers to iron (or at least rusted iron), and what bird is more appropriate for a coin than one with metal in its name?

Awesome set silver bug!!, I like the bird coins our mint produces, I've got all but 2 of the large 25¢ colored bird coins. @ fixguy if you don't mind me asking, what kind of bird do you have?, I myself have a cockatiel, she is a crazy bird!

thanks everyone:) I was thinking of using this case to hold all these loonies, it stores 27mm or 26.5mm coins perfectly

Excellent set, I received that set as a birthday gift, cockatiels certainly are fun!, I only have one but he is very funny, he sits on the top of his cage and acts like an eagle and goes through millet like its water lol. Despite what some people may think birds are wonderful and affectionate pets. Funny(and sad) story: I used to have a cat,a mean black outdoorsy cat. She would constantly attack birds(and their nests) and mice and I would always end up caring for them. many made it but baby birds can be very tricky to care for. Caring for these birds made me fall in love with them. Long story short I got rid of the cat which caused my love for birds and got a cockatiel who is now named pearl.
Sadly my neighborhood is riddled with nasty cats and I get the occasional injured bird, in fact the other month I found a female finch who was badly cut. We kept her for a while and she heeled very well, but she was old. R.I.P.
And no I'm not a crazy bid person, I'm a crazy coin person:-P
