I occasionally look on craigslist here in oklahoma city for coins to buy/trade and I saw this 1885 Liberty nickel.

http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/...8308959.html

It is in rough shape so I don't know. What do you all think.

I don't collect Liberty nickels so maybe the experts will disagree. Walk away - no, run away from this one.

I wouldn't pay $20 for that coin. Run away! Just my opinion, avoid craigslist for coins or anything valuable.

PASS, please.
You will NEVER be happy with this coin.
A "problem" coin will ALWAYS be a problem.

Do you think that anyone else will think differently?

That coin is worthless as a numismatic item ... no serious collector would consider owning it due to the damage.

Take a pass on it.

$250 is high asking price. If it was $100... maybe.

$250? Um, no. (which is the only way I can say that without the CCF filter kicking in)

No reason to ignore Craigs list. Just gotta be smart. And NOT buying this coin would be smart.

I would certainly own her. I would be pretty darn happy if I found her detecting. But to purchase at that price? No way.

Theres problem coins then theres PROBLEM coins, this one would be in the second group.

Regardless of the price for that coin youd immediately be underwater in it. Key date or not thats just to much damage front and center.

Maybe for 20 bucks, for 250 just save up a little longer and get one youd like

I know it's almost twice as much but here is a real nice "solid" coin.

to the badly damaged 1885 V nickel. It is a key coin for the series, but that one is not the coin for a serious collector.
