I believe the seller's claim that he dug it up in Virginia some 20 years ago. The pictures in the auction were a bit blurry so I thought I would take a shot at it in hopes of flipping it for some free silver. In hand, it shows a much darker and more uniform patina. I just couldn't get my focus and lighting right on this one.
Anyways, I paid $35 for it and really don't think I could flip it for much more. After doing a little research I have fallen in love with the history of this coin and probably will just keep it.
$35 was an excellent price for what this coin is. It's a very common coin in the post Colonial's but yours appears to have easy AU details. I like it :-)
