I am a lucky guy..a dear friend is selling her late dad's coin collection to me...it's a lifelong collection.....literally, thousands of cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, & halves(mostly lincoln's...but, from the list I have in hand, Indian's, and buffalo & Jefferson 5c--barber, mercury, and roosevelt 10c-..Liberty and Washington 25c---Barber, Liberty, and Franklin 50c, mixed dates from 1890-1960's in the mix)...as with most large orders, a lot of common dates...key to this is key dates, the grades,(full steps, full bands, full bellines, and, possible varieties and errors) and, the silver....what I need is wholesale prices for rolls of both circulated and BU coins(prefer online web sites to study, but, more than happy to order value sheets, and books-guides)..not sure where to turn..need to make a fair, yet decent offer...advice needed...I will be in contact with PCGS and NGC about a possible special hoard label, if things are worthy...more will be revealed when, if this pans out, coins in hand, and sale done..I don't want to jinx anything...
Thanks

I moved this to the US Modern forum since it relates more to their value that it does to searching.

No problem. I wanted the right people to see it. I have no idea, but I know who might and we have a better chance of them catching it here.

I would advise getting a subscription to the Grey Sheet. You can do this online and the last time I had the service it was only about $100 per year. The complete service will give you current pricing on most anything you may have. In my experience dealers pay between 15-20% lower than the current grey sheet pricing when they buy. Perhaps this will put you in the right range when you determine a fair price to pay for the collection.

There is no better place to look than ebay. I was in this same boat a few months back, only with a hoard of Morgans and circulated Merc dimes. I came to find that most price guides are worthless except to benchmark one coin against another--a 1921 Peace dollar might be listed at $120 in VF on one site, but if it will only sell on ebay for $50, it's only worth $50.

Are there any good key dates in the collection? If you're looking for maximum return, I'd sell them on ebay by the roll, starting at 99 cents to ensure a bidding frenzy--bidders seem to get caught up in the chase in the final seconds and end up bidding FAR more than the coin/roll is worth. Unless we're looking at hundreds of rolls of BU key date coins, I don't think it would be worth sending more than a few coins to the grading companies. It's not worth dealing with their fees unless you have something really special.

What are some of the better coins/rolls in the hoard? We love pictures :)
