The more I look at it, the more I see an S. I will have it in hand by mid next week. Then part of the truth will be known
I bookmarked your site macmercury. I will need to look at that book.

Did you pay for it as if it was a "D"?

Awesome! I also see a D. Even in the auction picture you can see it :-)

It's a better gamble than buying a lottery ticket. You still have a bunch of silver if it isn't a 16-D.

Even if it isn't a "D" you didn't pay that much for it. Good luck!

Don't know if this helps? But it shows most of the contouring on the coin, and highlights the scratches. Hope you have 'D' coin, I'm learning so much from this site :).

Waiting is misery. Twelve at the price you paid? Worth taking a gamble.

The more I look at it the more it looks like either an S or a D. Of course it could be just a Cud or a post mint ding. So the way to look at this is it is either a D, S, or neither. Not to helpful, right. Good luck and hopefully it turns out to be the D.

I also think that it is a 1916-D. I think it would grade fair-2. Those coins don't usually sell for all that much, but still well more than what you paid for the auction. I like the part of how you didn't mention the auction link until after you've won it. You, in fact, purposefully didn't even mention if it was ebay, calling it "auction site." Afraid someone here was going to steal it from you? I don't blame you really, but I thought it was interesting. I would like to think I would have enough honesty to not steal the coin, but I'm not certain if the opportunity really presented itself. Maybe the fair-2, I would have left alone, but if it was a G-4 or higher, I might have swooped in. Human nature I suppose.

I think we all knew it was ebay. There are no other auction sites for raw coins that post photos that I am aware of. Even Heritage only sells slabbed coins. If I was posting a possible purchase and didn't want any competition I would have posted he auction photos after I cropped them using Photoshop and played it off like my LCS had it.

I figured if you guys took the time to hunt it down on ebay, that it was fine if you beat me out on it, because then I probably would have at least found out what it was. The way it was titled and things though, it would have took a lot of hunting. I did crop the auction photo with photoshop.
