This is from an auction site, so I can't get better photos, but I am convinced this is a Denver minted mercury. Am I right? I am kinda tempted to gamble.

UPDATE:
Thanks for the help, hope you all get to see this. Only a few hours left to make up my mind.

I won the auction

I can return if I don't trust the way it looks in hand.

I'm magnifying your image on my smartphone, but am inclined to agree it's Denver.

Thanks Dave. I tried to magnify with photoshop. I think someone else has noticed this auction as well, because it is at a price more then it should be.

It certainly looks like a D, although I am not entirely sure.

From that pic, I would say that is a D. A 16 I take it?

Within a micro second after I saw the image I thought "D."

Follow the lines:

Now I am unsure.

Also, I am wondering what the odds of one this low grade being a possible fake. I think the obverse would carry this one to a fr2 grade. Would po1 have a premium if it got that grade, due to the lowball collectors?

I think it would be hard for a Mercury dime to get a P-01 grade and still retain a visible mint mark so my guess is this probably would sneak into a Fair grade. Of course, looking at population numbers PCGS has certified 3 P-01 16-Ds.

I am really tempted to take a shot on this. I am going to try to win it, and then will keep my fingers crossed.

Closes to be in Die 1 position, and definitely need to get it authenticate by TPG if you win.
But again, the angle of photo can be misleading.

Thanks macmercury. I will send it into ngc if I like the way it looks in hand and can get your opinions once I take photos. I did win it.

Also, any good websites on Mercury dimes that you people know of?

Sorry for all the rapid post, I am just filled with excitement/nervousness/other feelings because this could be a huge score.

I am a NGC member, and there is good info here along with NGC census report, you will have to be a member to get the census though, but NGC price and auction prices you can compare.

Also, The Complete Guide To Mercury dime by David Lawrence.

And click on my link. I haven't update anything lately though, job keeps me busy.
