Thanks

I would say small bust. The large bust has less detail in the hair above the crown and the beads are much closer to the rim of the coin, almost touching it.

I believe mine is a small bust too, can anyone confirm please? Sorry for the low resolution scan.

One of my first finds, still in pretty good quality too other than the scratches, you can still see the eyebrow of the queen. Got it at face value.

One more question, do quarters minted 1976 and 1978 have large bust or small bust? Mine appear to have large bust, same with a 1969 quarter (which I know has large bust), than ones minted 1982 and 1985 and 1989 (they have small bust).

If obv. circle of dots are far from rim = small bust
If obv. circle of dots are close to rim = large bust
you can tell at a quick glance.

I believe quarters minted after 1973 uses small bust instead of large bust? I have quarters dated 1976 and 1978 with large bust (the rest are small bust). Is this a mistake or is it a variety?

I know which ones are large and small, but until what year do they use the large bust until? My 1976 and 1978 has large bust obverses.

And apparently I messed up that scan, I've switched the coins around, I'll remove that picture.

I see. I thought they changed it at 1973 when they minted the RCMP quarters. Thanks.

The small bust obverse used for the 1973 commerative is a one year type. The smaller bust introduced in '79 is different.

You're right, I just noticed that. The small bust in the RCMP coin is smaller.

For me, the distance of the beads would be harder to determine if you don't have anything to compare it to. I think it's easier to look at the hair on top.
