Hi all,

So this coin looks to me almost exactly like the 1955S-1MM-001 (http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/..._state=eds). It is hard to tell from the pick but there are 2 extra Ss north of the original. The big exception is on Lincoln's jacket there is another clear S. I guess this leave me with two questions.

1. Do you think this is a 1955 s/s/s because I seem to be wrong more often then right on these things.

2. Why is there a S on Lincoln's jacket? While it seems pretty cool to me it seems to contradict it being this specific variety.

Thanks for your time, Guy

While I can't see what is going on with the actual mint mark, what looks like an S on the jacket is most likely just damage that resembles an S. 60 years of circulation can cause lots of dings and nicks, and your brain can make a bit of damage look like something else (like pictures of Jesus on burnt toast). Closer pictures would be better, and put them right side up, it's hard to compare coins when one is upside down.

Thanks for the input!

@rupester: How would one find a numismatist?

@Dave: I'm sorry the pic isn't the best, I took dozens and that was the clearest one I could get. I've added a rotated pic of it to make things easier. I played with it in Photoshop and tried overlaying the alleged lower S with the mint mark S and they fit perfectly. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but other then it being duller then the main mint mark it looks almost identical.

Local coin shops or on here.. Its a cool coin but I would have to agree that extra S is probably something post mint but it would be worth having it looked at by numismatist then you know what you have for sure.. I would a coin guy would want it coin in hand for inspection. Thats just my humble opinion.. And I personally think its a cool coin.. It reminds me of the 1962 franklin proof with a possible misplaced mintmark CPG
FS-50-1962-501 rumored that 3 are known to exist.. Anyways cool coin be fun read more responses

I'm just seeing a couple of contact marks on the lapel. The location looks correct for the 001.

the s on lincolns coat looks like a hit from the rim of another coin.
