In the past week, I have bought a 1960-P and a 1964-P LMC 5,000 count bags. I have opened the 1960-P and I am trying to concentrate on locating varieties like 1960P-1DR-002 on Coppercoins, but the pictures aren't the best.

In order to train eyes what to look for, quality photos should be avaiable and THEN an eventual "ah HA!" will make the process a lot easier.

I can understand the separation above "AMERICA", but what about the bottom "notching" below "ONE CENT" ? Thats my main concern.

I already have a handful of potential candidates, I just want to have a better understanding of that infamous "notching".

yeah, as long as they are from the same year and general die, its helpful. In the past others have tried to help showing proof examples, when my coins were business strikes - its a completely different world.

John Wexler has a few examples I am digging through today. I am sure I will eventually find a nice picture of a good example.

I hope the bags produce something, but I am not at a total loss if not. I paid just above melt for them and I'll simply sell the BU rolls at shows for 3-5 bucks apiece and make my money back.

I have one of Coop's DVD's but it isn't the Windows Media version, so it wont run on workstations. I don't load much software on devices that are internet facing, so I gave the DVD to my son.

The notching on the USA and the "FG" spread are the major thing to look for. The notching on ONE CENT is so minor that the camera will not show it. So look at the upper devices not the lower ones. I look first for a doubled die on "FG" then ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the outer devices. (Order of search and the bold letters I search for first.) Depending on the doubled die type not all the devices will show the same doubling. On this die the hubbing was offset to the north on one of the hubbings. So the lower devices are not as strong. That is why they don't show in the coppercoins images.

Thats my plan, I've been looking at the FG on the first pass, getting through as many as possible.
Then I can go back and separate them, look for die markers and put in coin tubes.

If I get any really serious candidates I will post them.

I search cents the same way each time. I look at the date first, LIBERTY ear and eye and the motto. then move to the reverse. I use the formula above. The reverse 1986 cents forward I look at for more central doubled dies. The doubled dies are different on these.

I enlarged the photo Of "AMERICA" on coppercoins and could see the notching on the "R" quite clearly.
