I agree with you on the Morgans. 1921 is a common date and not worth sending to a TPG until the MS64/65 range. The gold dollars would be someone else's opinion.

Thx, Dave. Any grade thoughts on the Morgans, by chance? First two I've obtained, not very familiar with them. High F/low VF-ish I would guess, maybe? Cleaned, or no? On the gold dollars, I'm really not sure at all...grade OR cleaned...

buying raw gold dollars is a balzzy move....so many good counterfeits out there made of real gold. The type 1 doesn't look right, but it could be that its polished, but may just be the photos. I would send both in just for authentication purposes.

Both gold coins look legitimate I do not see any problems regarding real versus fake however they both look polished the first one looking especially polished which means it's not worth sending in for grading as they will not come back problem free

Yeah, johnny, I know I took a chance, but I think I got lucky. I have wanted a type 1 and a type 3 dollar; I worked on this purchase very diligently for four months...I looked hard for slabbed coins, but couldn't make it work for my price range...I was careful about buying the raw ones, as careful as I knew how to be, and had money-back options to return either...
I can see where the type 1 looks polished, just got it yesterday; the darker area on the cheek/chin and just below/left of the chin is reflection off the surface of the coin, not actually something ON the coin; it's just "mirroring effect." The coin weighs 1.670 grams, per my scale; I verified that I could get a refund on it if it didn't check out appearance-wise and weight-wise.
I'm glad to have them in my collection, even if I had to take a chance on them...as it seems like I lucked out with them checking out weight-wise and, as far as I can tell, appearance-wise (unless someone sees things I don't, which is quite possible).

for some pricier coins, your better off buying slabbed to be certain that they aren't fake, messed with, etc

Thanks for the advice, guys. I appreciate it.
Any thoughts on the grades of any of the coins?
Steve

The first Morgan appears to be EF40 and the second Morgan appears to be AU50.

Thanks all...looks like EF is the average of everyone's thoughts on the Morgans, the second a bit nicer than the first.
A couple of MS votes for the gold coins...any other thoughts on them?
Thanks!
Steve
