I will warn you now however, they are very addicting. just carl Bedrock of the Community United States 20753 Posts	Posted 03/16/2014 2:00 pm As I noted in a previous reply, if you can find a coin show, you'll be able to find almost the entire set of those. At a coin show today there was one dealer with close to all of those Dimes and most in from VG to Unc grades. Most of his prices were reasonable too. At many coin shows you will find many dealers that like to specialize in one type or other. At the one I went to today, possibly most had Morgan Dimes and many of them. With enough money a person could complete a set from one coin show. Report this Post to the Staff

While there may be 3 or 4 examples of the 1895-o being offered, sometimes not one is worth buying. While a given coin show may offer all 74 examples of the series many will be questionable, problematic or both. Eye appeal has a role to play as well. It has worked for me to establish contacts with whom I share an interest in Barber dimes. Today at a show I was advised to start a second collection with my extras, but one is enough for me. I have already sold/traded the extras. I did find an upgrade so the day was a success. Especially so because the dealer took my old example off my hands. justin3651 Pillar of the Community United States 621 Posts	Posted 03/16/2014 11:39 pm Indeed, in higher grades some of them are very hard to find. baseballs been looking for a higher circulated grade 1896 o for quite some time and I cant find a 1897 o in ms that's acceptable to me for the price. matthew, which one did you upgrade? paddy murphy Valued Member United States 401 Posts	Posted 03/17/2014 1:02 pm I think Barber dimes and Buffalo nickles are the best starter sets for younger collectors and are the 2 I decided to focus on with my 9 year old daughter to get her interested in coins. We buy one of each every month and then I show her how we cross them off my "Paddy Murphy Want-list" page. There's no rush & we should be done in 2 years. The large majority of each set are affordable in lower grades and with the early 00 Dimes, it's easy to teach about the S, D, O mintmarks Report this Post to the Staff

Mine was a VF, but had toning that even I could not accept. paddy, An ambitious choice of sets! The CDN newsletter listing for a completed set in good or better: Nickels - bid $1,300 - ask $1,450 Dimes - bid $1,100 - ask $1,200 At the rate of 2 coins a month for 24 months you will be spending $110 a month. However, 2 per month for 36 months reduces the monthly expenditure to $72 per month. If it makes sense to you, you can select a comfortable budget and save the 'extra' money to be put towards the higher priced coins. If you use the second approach, your Barber dimes will ALL be 100 years old or older in 2016. All kids are fascinated by this age. I have a 1904 dime in VF with nice appeal. PM me if interested.
