Thank you

Oddly enough not a difficult coin to aquire. If you go to a coin show, you would see almost enough to make a complete set. Of course there are a few not to easy to get. And if you put them in an Album, make sure it doesn't have a space for the 1894S. Mine does and not much chance getting that one. With exceptions, most in the 1900's are less than $10 in decent conditions. If you keep to G-4 to about VF-20, should be a fun set to try for. From 1892 to about 1900 some get pretty pricy even in lower grades. I'm on set #4 now of those with many empty slots in all of them though.
If you do run accross an 1894S, for a decent price, let me know.

Here's a free online reference book courtesy of David Lawrence.

Barber dimes are common lower grades due to the time frame in which they were minted--most couldn't afford to save 10 cents.

A new Barber dime enthusiast. My favorite kind of collector.
just carl is correct on that grade range being ideal. If you get a Dansco album, a first page in good/very good
and a second page in fine/very fine would look great and not kill your pocketbook.
The David Lawrence book will soon become your dime bible.
MUCH easier to obtain in nicer grades than the quarters and halves.
I have all 74 in at least fine. My 1895-O is AU-58. Am working on all XF and AU but a few MS
have slipped into the set. Now THAT'S diffficult!
I exhibit the set once a year in Manchester and the coin expo. It always attracts dime specialists.
I am a contributing editor of the Barber Coin Collectors' Journal.
I know a bit about this series.

Some of the varieties are hsrd to come by. I only have one Barber dime in my collection, 1899-O/O (four attributed at PCGS and one through NGC), but I am a Type, not a Series collector.

Good Luck!

I have begun to collect varieties, the latest being an 1893 triple mintmark.
One is re-engraved and the other is a shelf doubling.
If you collect by type, why not interesting varieties?
Same price or only slightly more expensive.

Looks like an interesting book. I'll look for it at a coin show tomorrow. Oddly enough at one coin show I go to there are always tables full of coin books. And so few ever on Dimes of any kind.

As has already been said this is a good doable set. There are keys that'll set you back some - the most expensive being the 1895-O but depending on your goals isn't too hard. I am about halfway through with this set and my example of this key in AG/G set me back about $220 a few years ago, though I'll probably upgrade at some point. As a side note I am assembling mine in a vintage J Oberwise folder from 1938 and it looks really cool so far. There is a lot of history with this series so enjoy putting it together!

My favorite of the books listed there was tales from the bourse.

Congrats on selecting this series. There are some really good bargains out there, just take your time.

A very underappreciated series IMHO. I once had the complete set -the 1894-S of course. There are a couple of "hurdle" coins but most are obtainable even with a smaller budget.
Good luck :-)

My biggest problem is I dont know where to start I guess. Do I want to do all in g/vg or all in f/vf. Or just two different albums for both. LOL

Two albums is never a bad idea lol.

But if youre already thinking f/vf as you get into it more you will likely wish you did that if you go g/vg. Then you either have to do two albums or sell the lower grades.

I would do f/vf since youve already started thinking that. I believe its better to build the album slowly with something you really like then to just try and hole fill with the intention of upgrading later. Its cheaper in the long run to just do it how you want from the start

I thought maybe do pre 1900 in g/vg and 1900-16 in f/vf. Guess there is really no wrong way as long as I'm happy with it.

Also if anyone on here is looking to move some barbers I would be interested.

Remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. And in all honesty I believe it's the journey that brings the most satisfaction rather than the finish line.

Oh, and congrats on choosing Barber dimes as a project. I think you'll find them to be a very satisfying set to build.
