I got this draped bust large cent on e-bay for what I considered a good price due to the corrosion. It is really a very pretty coin where the copper comes through the corrosion (the corrosion color is not obvious from pictures but is a very dark green). Any suggestions of how to at least stop the corrosion (perhaps even to the point that it could get graded) or am I hosed?

Here are pictures:

I believe that no matter WHAT you do, that coin will receive a BB due to environmental damage.

Looks the damage has already been done on that coin. Was it a metal detector find, or did they say?

I think any further cleaning will certainly "ruin" your coin. It is good looking copper, I like it. It is darn near impossible to find an affordable Cu that doesn't have corrosion issues. One of the top two TPGs may holder it (although highly unlikely), I have seen worse in their slabs. You can always use ANACS's services as they will holder it an note the corrosion/PVC/Environmental Damage on the plastic.

I think it looks good. I think that any corrosion that was there has stopped.

Leave well enough alone. I would suggest you just put it in a 2x2 or air tight and as long as no further air gets to it, it should stay as it is. Cleaning it would only make things worse.
