Unfortunately my grandfather passed away this last week after a long bout with cancer. He left some coins to the family, but I am more of a silver guy when it comes to grading. One of the coins is this 1924 St. Gaudens. What do you guys think on grade? This coin will not be sold and will be added to the family collection as a momento to my grandfather (although I am thinking about sending it in to get graded). Thanks so much in advance!

I'm very sorry about your grandfather.

He had very good taste! Easy MS64 possibly higher. Fields look real clean.

I am very sorry to hear about your Grandfather. I am glad that you aren't going to sell the coin and are going to keep it in the family. Like the above poster stated he had excellent taste in coins. That Saint may well go MS-65 or perhaps even higher, it appears to be an outstanding piece!

Thank you both very much. I have thus far been more on the Morgan end of collecting so am not as sure on my grading of gold. He indeed has a great piece with this one and the color is excellent in hand. We will probably be sending this one off soon.

Looks like a nice high MS. Perhaps a MS-64 or 65. Highly valuable piece. Get it graded by a quality TPG like PCGS or NGC.

I also have a die crack that runs out of the rays on the left side of the coin. I have verified that there is a ridge, rather than a scratch. I realize the picture it bad, but it gives you the direction of the crack. Are these common on the Saint Gaudens?

Looks at least 65. Unless you are planning on selling it I wouldn't send it in. Just enjoy it knowing who owned it
