Hi, this coin was included as part of a large collection I bought about six months ago. The coin was in the folder with a few other 1790's washington coins but I have just assumed it was a restrike but couldn't find any mention of a restrike when I googled. Thanks

One of the Getz pattern coins:

Can't say offhand if it could be original or a modern copy, but it's not consistent with the 19th century restrikes.

Looks like a totally fake fantasy coin from China to me.

It is not a coin, it is a token of some kind.

A similar one was sold here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-ANTIQU...047675.l2557

And a similar 'replica' is for sale here: http://www.coinsofourpast.com/coinp...oinpage.html

There is some info here: http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/Col...ashGETZ.html

Specifically: "The Idler copies can be distinguished from the originals in the following ways: the ending of the 2 in 1792 in the copy points upward while the original points downward."

The two on yours does seem to point downward so it isn't an Idler copy, (but that doesn't mean it is real either).

Do you have any measurements of it and maybe a weight? I've gone about as far as I can go with the info but it will help someone who is more familiar with there pieces.

Thank you for all the help, I just weighed it and it is 20.25 grams. Are these restrikes worth much?

Curious piece for sure.

Seems a bit heavy according to P's nd link.

Is there anything on the edge of the coin?

With the understanding that I know little about this series.....This example certainly has the diagnostics of the original Getz dies.....

I am looking specifically at the star below the chickens beak. On the Getz pieces it is slightly rotated left of the beak tip http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...tIdNo=45055. I cannot find a replica with this characteristic.

I'd like to see the edge as well. As it has all the characteristics of the original Getz pieces, a seam around the edge would tell us if it's one one of the 19th century electrotype copies (collectible in their own right).

Just wanted to follow up to see if anyone had any other opinions on this coin. If I sent it to a grading company would they identify it or just return it with a generic not genuine/upgradeable?
