Nice coin, I checked the number on the ICGS website and the coin is legit. I think you did well with the price. Congrats.

Thanks echizento. I didn't really bother checking certificate at the time of purchase because the seller is one of the foremost ancient coin dealers in Canada and if the coin turned out to be fake he would refund me. I know him well enough to say that he wouldn't sell me a fake intentionally. Would love to hear a couple more opinions.

Congratulations! Now crack that puppy out, enjoy it, and take some good pics! Can't tell much about it in the plastic prison photos. Have you checked wildwinds and other places for complete attribution and details? A quick glance through CNG's archives makes me think that in addition to condition, the mint locale may play a role in pricing. Here's one link to some CNG comps: http://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?PAG..._TYPE_ID_4=1

I think this is a very good value for money ancient gold coin. It should take a starring role in ANY collection of ancient coins. Congratulations.
I also agree with the comments of ThisIsFun.

Well It's a Tomis Mint issue. Says so on the slab. I can confirm based on the mint marks on the other Tomis mint coins. Normally I would crack it out. it's just that the obverse it a bit rough because it was struck using a very worn/rusted obverse die-- you can see how the reverse in nearly in mint-state condition. I think it would be hard to convince others that this is actually a near mint-state coin. I think I'll keep it in for now. I have always suspected that these were struck by Brutus. They were ofcourse issued by him but one day it's going to be proven that he struck them too.
(By the way, this is legitimately only the second ancient that I currently have, believe it or not. I'm going to start to build my ancients around this one.)

Another question: In the link provided by ThisIsFun, the staters are all listed as 120-63 BC. Would these be the same as mine where mine is a more accurate date representation?

Very nice coin, an ancient gold coin which is certainly genuine can only being purchased at official dealers like you did.

Estimate £1500: http://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotvi...73d33e49080dThis one in Mint state currently at £2500 + Buyers fee. www.coinarchives.com/a/lotviewer.php?LotID=648811&AucID=1193&Lot=754&Val=b4c04729f6ab953686548ab345f915db Those are the most expensive examples with some others goingforward $1200-:$1800 gVF to low AU.

Oh wow!
That is a nice score. Do you think they sold it so low cause they didn't know what they had? Or you barter the heck out of the seller! :)

I bartered it Down from $1450 but he only bought it a few hours back for like $700 so he didn't have time to figure out the value.

To be honest based on the photos the links with comparable examples are of an higher grade imo. You cant really compare yours with those.

I don't know about that. I see why you may be confused. The coin I have had been struck using very worn and rusted dies resulting in a weak, uneven strike on the Obverse. Wear wise all these coins have very similar details. Compare the reverse on my coin and the one in the link. They are very identical. Still I see why a buyer would pay a lower price for my piece over another but a serious collector would see the difference.
