I'm still pretty new at this and I come into contact with a lot of modern coins. I was wondering what types of errors or rare coins I would be able to notice with the naked eye. Thanks for the help!

Blackandgold- Welcome to CCF!!

Here are a couple of links that can get you started. I'm not sure what coins you are interested in, but these are for cents and nickels. And there are several CCF members here willing to give you some direction. Good luck!!

After you search through several hundred coins you will know what a normal coin looks like.
Then you will be able to spot coins which look "odd" for one reason or another.
Ask the members to help you identify if it is indeed an error.
And read through the links provided by Rackster.
Good hunting!

Lot easier than you think. First try to find a copy of the Red Book. Then at about page 414, pending which edition, they show a sort of decent listing, with photos, of error coins. Of course you could go to one web site after another forever looking at tons of info, but that book shows the most common.
