Specimen or proof quality coins require very careful handling. You should really cover your mouth with a filter (so you will not get saliva spots on the coin). You should use gloves and plastic tongs. And you should be careful not to have any metal objects or liquid nearby where the coin might come in contact. Personally I have been burned too many times - anytime I see a specimen or proof coin being offered on
ebay and it is photographed in bare condition I avoid bidding. There is just too much of a probability that the coin will have marks or dust or saliva spots (that don't show right away) because most sellers either don't know better or don't care.
