I am just now getting into Presidential dollar proof sets and I ordered 2 2007 proof dollar sets on ebay each from a different seller. one of them had really bad scratches on Washington's face and the other one had black stains on the coins. are the stains because of age/metal composition? I seem to be having bad luck getting a decent proof set. also, do you know how much the mint sold these for?

thanks,

Jcoins

RedBook says issue price of the 2007 set was $15. And of course the $4.95 shipping.

Proof sets selling for below issue price a few years later is the norm not the exception. The 68, 69, 71 and 72 sets are selling for close to issue price 40 years after they came out, and the 68 and 69 sets have 40% silver halves in them! And silver is almost 10 times what it was back then.

Non-silver proof and mint sets are collectibles not investment items as most, if not all, of them decrease in price over times

Here is an example using Pres. dollars. Mint cost followed by current retail price. Of course you could find someone to pay more than retail but it is just for a reference}

2007-S Presidential Dollars $14.95 $6.50
2008-S Presidential Dollars $14.95 $11.00
2009-S Presidential Dollars $14.95 $8.50
2010-S Presidential Dollars $15.95 $14.50
2011-S Presidential Dollars $19.95 $20.00
