Is this seller tricky? I was interested in bidding on this "bank wrapped" roll of 1955 S dimes. http://www.ebay.com/itm/27142090469...RK:MEBIDX:ITNotice anything funny? The photos of the ends are not from that roll. Started doing a little research, and found a roll he sold recently http://www.ebay.com/itm/BANK-WRAPPE...047675.l2557Looks like he used these end photos for the current listing. The roll in the sold listing looks more real than the current listing, but I would expect to see more toning on the ends. I sent the seller a message and am waiting for a response. He has a good feedback rating. Any thoughts?

I can hand fold an end up that looks as good as that ones one end if not a little better. it might take a few tries to get it perfect but I'm sure that paper isn't too expensive and is probably sold in bulk. I don't trust the listing and wouldn't bid on it myself. Probably been looked through already imo.

The wrappers look like modern wrappers artificially aged.

That's an NF strings wrapper. I buy them wholesale by the thousands. They sell the wrapper, and that's all NF String does, so there is never an association with NF Strings and Bank Rolled like the so-called seller seems to imply. That wrapper is loose, really loose. heck if he even didn't try, NF string sells the kit to seal rolls for like 5 bucks and the kit does 1 5, 10 and 25 cent coins.
Just because it looks intriguing doesn't mean the results will be.

Been rollin since before the Hunt bros fiasco, and I still don't know what a bank rolled roll is. Maybe teller rolled?
I see nothing wrong with that auction if those dimes are genuinely bu.

The problem with the first listing is that the pictures of the ends of the roll are from a different roll. The design of the stripes is different. The end pictures show one size stripe, and the roll itself has a skinnier stripe alternating. The seller hasn't responded yet to my question. edit: the seller responded and acted all confused and stuff, so I responded and clarified it for him saying that simply the photos of the ends of the roll are from a previous sale of his...and I gave him the ebay item #. Haven't heard back from him yet.

I still don't understand the emphasis placed on the type of roll, as long as the coins are BU.

Some people just like rolls that are "original." Not sure why, but it's just one of those things where 'we collect what we like.' I really like original rolls with toned ends. The thought of eventually finding an error, or a really gem coin in an unsearched roll comes into play also. I'm kind of new to collecting and only have a few rolls, but I will say that I have 2 original silver quarter rolls from the early 60's with golden toned ends, and they are really cool.
So anyway the seller of the roll responded again and still won't acknowledge the different photos, so there's not much else I can do except avoid the listing.

Is there any way to "fudge " the feedback ratings on e bay? I see the seller has 100% positive feedback. If someone got burned I'd think it would have been reported.

The only way I can think of to "fudge" feedback ratings...sell a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of, let's say, pennies, starting bid of 1 cent with local pickup only. The person then waits for people in his area to bid or, (more likely) he just creates a second account and bids on all his listings. Pays relatively nothing (if nothing) to eBay/Paypal (1 cent free shipping per item I'd imagine negates Paypal/Ebay fees entirely) = win-win.
It's a dirty trick to get a quick high-quality-feedback score to trick people. It can be used for good (say by a new morale seller who wants to compete more with the big shots) and it can be used for bad (say by a new seller who wants to sell rip off stuff but appear to be a big shot).
