Does anyone use proxibid as an outlet to buy or even sell coins? I do a lot of buying on there from a couple of reputable auction houses wondered if anyone else did too

Hi, as a new member it looks pretty suspicious for your first post to be asking about a specific auction website (especially plugging it in the subject line).

I am not plugging anything for the website? I recently came across coin community yesterday and decided to post. I can delete the post if it is against "code" to ask about it. Its numerous companies posting so I am not advertising anyone. Its like ebay many buyers and sellers.

I don't think that you have to delete your post. I think, you however. Should Chang "proxibid .com" to just proxibid and maybe ask the question in a more general manner. I agree with Nala, you post kinda does looks like advertising.

Is this how we welcome a new member?
I've never personally had much luck with Proxibid. Images are small, and bidders' eyes are large.

! I used to when I was buying. I did ok most of the time with a couple of fantastic wins (unidentified small motto 1864 2 center no one else picked up on) and a couple of times I really got skunked. I have fun looking for misattributed coins. If a collector is looking for high end coins, I do not think this is the place to look, though.

to the community, all questions are welcome ! I get the majority of my coins at Proxibid. Like was said, it is just a portal, an ebay wanna be for auction houses instead of individuals. However, it is not for the uninitiated. Many....many coins, high end and low end. But many of the auction houses suffer from poor photography, over hyped coins, high buyers premium, shill bidding and obnoxious shipping charges. If you go in well informed, stick with the top ranked houses, getting a $100 coin for $80 is not a deal if you are paying 20% BP and $10 shipping and handling. But if you only bid with good photography, don't buy over hyped coins, know what you want and how much it is worth with all the fees ....... I just got a semi key date Libertad last week, all fees included, for $20 less than Provident Metals had them for. Deals can be had.

I've seen coin/PM vendors mentioned frequently here in the last 2 years. Vendors and supplies vendors are frequently mentioned and recommended in the PM forum. There are also occasional threads in which a poster will say "I'm going to be visiting the __________ area and I'd appreciate recommendations of good coin shops to visit while I'm there" and other people mention area shops. I don't see where asking about some commercial enterprise in the coin/PM world is suspicious. It's part of the information-sharing that goes on here and in other forums.
However... it's a different story when somebody drops in out of the blue and in their 1st or 2nd post they launch into a four paragraph long song of praise and worship of some business. That's advertising and posts or threads like that tend to get deleted.

ccoins15, Be advised, we have had others come on here and plug their websites and it really turned some folks off. It wasn't pretty. Don't get too hurt over not knowing how to do the two-step around the forum history.

Don't feel bad. Nothing that you said or asked was in any way out of line or inappropriate. If anything had been, our vigilant and energetic mods would have indicated that long before now. The names of other websites are frequently mentioned in full.

The only auction houses I seem to use are SilverTowne, Star Coin, Capital, Rolling M Auctions, and Weavers. Always have great coins reasonable bp and shipping cost/time.
(Also how do you quote a post?) Thanks
