I bought this coin recently as I found it very interesting. Once in my hand and after studying it I found a few spots that concern me, I would like the help of the educated people here on determining what a few spots on my coin are and if the coin is indeed authentic. The spots are located in the bottom left half of the reverse next to the lion. There is also some doubling visible on the rook or castle in the bottom right quadrant of the reverse.

Any information is useful I am constantly learning more about this amazing hobby.

Thank you!

First of all, welcome.

I can see why you might be concerned. This is a coin type that has been widely counterfeited for a very long time. First thing I'd do is weigh it. In itself, that won't verify it if correct, but will expose it as a fake if it's substantially off.

ChristianN, it is not uncommon for a genuine coin to have some silver remnant left on field of a coin and had been double-struck in some areas. Frankly, I don't think your coin has a problem. Congratulation to have a nice historical coin collected. Always started from simple and useful information, can you also tell the weight and diameter of your coin.

I have the same year coin and it is 26.67 grams (std. wt. 27 grams), 39.4-39.5 mm, S.G. measured by me 10.25 (about 85% Ag). I am confident that my coin is real. There are pictures for you to compare. Henry
