Hi all. I'm not a high volume seller, maybe10-15 auctions per week. Selling in batches ending on Sundays. I'm really surprised regarding the percentage of non payers on my auctions. Sometimes up to 50% or the winners don't pay until after ebay automatically opens an unpaid item case Has anyone else these experiences? Many of them are low feedback buyers, but also a few that has feedback in the 1000s. I don't get why some bid in the last minute and win, but then don't pay right away. the winning email shows up literally seconds after you placed the winning bid. Just frustrating to have items just lying around instead of me sending them off... anyone else experiencing a high % of non-payers? there, done venting my frustrations... Have an awesome day all

It is frustrating waiting for a payment to come so you can ship. After everything gets mailed Monday there are always a few that take longer to pay. For me it is a 5 mile drive to the post office often for one or two late people.

I've found that some 'buyers' bid on many of the same item, and choose the cheapest winner. I've had secondary account users just pull out of a purchase for obscure reasons and they have no activity on their accounts-or haven't been active with the account for years, sometimes makes me wonder if it's a seller with the same product killing competition. There are unfortunately these cases happening more often then not, I've also won items and had the sellers refuse to sell the item-or just not send it and refund suspiciously immediately and re-list the item again. The best thing you can do is block certain users on your block list i.e. numerous strike buyers, any of the people who have failed a legally binding contractual agreement between you and them for suspicious reasons, and many other options. ebay is like life, it is great but does have it's flaws.

Wow, learn something new every day. Yeah, I always wondered why people don't pay immediately when you know they were watching when the auction ended. I always pay quickly. I think it's just a different way of thinking. 50% seems like a lot. I always attempt contact first before opening case though.

For example, last Sunday's auctions, I had 13 items listed. Still waiting for 4 to be paid. And those winners were all snipers at the end. Another example, I sold a BIN last night. Since I forgot to check the immediate payment required, that buyer hasn't paid as well. I never open cases on my own, but I have ebay do it for me automatically after four days. What really stuns me is that high feedback buyers do this. And I waited 10 days for a buyer to pay for a 1886 V nickel. Especially when all his other feedback tell tales of superfast pyment... If I was to purchase a key or semi-key, I'd pay asap. just don't get it...

I'm not a seller here.. but after a non-payment process is completed... is there anyway for you to contact the 2nd highest bidder and offer them the item at their last bid price?

I don't sell on ebay but I have purchased several things over the years. As soon as the auction ends and it shows me as the winner, I pay especially if it ends on Sunday--they can get it ready and shipped out on Monday. Have a great rest of the weekend. -MV

@AgCoinAu yes, you will an option next to the item saying second chance offer. The only problem with that is, after time is lost due to non payment. The second highest bidder has most likely already bought the item elsewhere, not all the time but a high percentage of the time. Then the seller has to re-list the item and start over, and with selling time is money. It effectively solidifies your liquid stock for longer than need be, which annoys me personally.
But these things happen, best thing to do is block the people from buying from you and jump back on the horse.
I'm with you guys I pay immediately aswell.

theory, perhaps they don't have the money and are stalling for time for the ones who don't pay till ebay opens a case. I can see how it could happen if you were to win more auctions than you expected or something like that.

Justin almost no one has a problem with that if they communicate. It's the ones that win and never say anything that's the problem. It only takes a few seconds to say "hey I won't be able to pay till x date, let me know if that's a problem" or something like that. The key is just communication or lack of it for whether or not it's an issue

Yes, I completely agree baseball. I had contemplated bringing it up in the last post, I think some people are too embarrassed or lazy or don't care enough to do it perhaps. personally If I don't know if Ill have the funds to pay for something I want to bid on right away when I win the auction if I win other auctions I've already bid on I will email the seller before bidding and politely ask if they are willing to wait for payment 3-5 days and so far I've never heard a no. Well, when I was actively bidding on many auctions at once that is, as you know right now I'm not doing any buying.(up) (nana)

Polite communication between buyer and seller pays off in the establishment of a good relationship.

Just make sure they do have a short handling time. I have a 2 day, but I normally ship within one day. I have the 2 day incase something happens etc. If you bid on something at 6:00 at night and don't pay until 9:00 the next morning, it will not be shipped until the next day, because I won't see the payment received until the post office is closed or right at it. If you were to pay at 6:05 the night of purchase, I would have not problem getting it ready and shipping it the next day unless it were really big and heavy or something like that. Another thing that annoys me is not getting feedback, but that is another thread. Quote: almost no one has a problem with that if they communicate. I've only had 5 non-pay cases opened. One person paid, 4 did not and I won the case. Pain either way!
I have mine set up to block bidders with 2 or more non-paying strikes within the last 6 months and the log it keeps has shown that it has prevented a fair amount of bids. I'd rather not get the sale than take a risk on someone with 2 strikes in that short amount of time.

Out of my around 200 sales, I've had 18 cases opened by eBays automatic system. Only 3 hasn't paid and they are now blocked. I assume some winners find new stuff I offer that they like and bid on those as well. Since my auctions run Sun-Sun with new ones starting every Sunday, they assume they can just hold off the payment for a week and bid on those ending a week after the first winning. I would be fine with that IF THEY HAD COMMUNICATED THAT! Instead of that, I have no idea how they think, ebay opens a case after 4 days, I send reminders after two and six days after the auction ends. I guess I need to be more specific in my auctions. I always offer free shipping, so it's not like they save anything by not paying. On the other hand, I can save a buck or two...still frustrating though not knowing...
