I'm thankful for the input from the membership. I think I'll keep hold of these for posterity. It's a flaw I haven't seen before but noticed on E-bay. I certainly wouldn't pay 30 dollars for it but for forty bucks I got to increase my collection size and maybe in a few years we may find out that those series runs weren't long due to the shift or something. I've never sold on E-bay, maybe someday. I'd prefer to go to a show myself. I like the personal honest up front feel of it but times are changing for this old fart.

This is not considered an error in my opinion... for two reasons... #1 this offset is still within what is considered allowable contraints...
#2 this happens so frequently you will come across an offset digit (especially the last digit on the earliest issues) quite often..
I feel sorry for people that are paying good money for something that they will never see a return in... but that's their fault ...
I also feel sorry for the seller... esp. if this seller has any sound knowledge in banknotes they also KNOW this is NOT an error.. but are misrepresenting something.. which in the end may deter someone from this hobby.. and they're knowingly selling their dignity for a couple bucks...
Fixguy... your notes are NOT errors.. keep 'em if you think they're neat.. .spend 'em if you wish... but please don't try and profiteer by calling them an error...it will do more harm than good to this hobby.

Sorry if by using a word I make you think I'm ruining collecting. I guess that's all part of learning about terminology. As I said I don't sell money, so no worries about me ruining the hobby. Being told that by you is as big a turn off to collecting I guess as being sold this bill as an error. I only hope one day to be as keen on terminology as others. Till then I guess I'll keep my thoughts to myself and let others post threads.

@ Fixguy... ask as many questions as you want and post what you want. This is what the forum is all about. Don't get spooked by something that you believe is a negative comment as it is tough to gauge written text.

Ohh snap... fixguy... please ask as many questions as you like... make as many threads as you wish.... I think my intentions have become discombobulated somewhere...
Here's the deal... I don't think that an offset numeral to this degree is an error. I personally believe that the people that call this an error, then try to sell them on e-bay and similar places are well... shiesters or snake oil sales people.
It's similar to a person listing a coin and calling it RARE when it's very very common. They are only doing it to try and generate sales.
If you were to list this note as "$20 polymer with offset numeral" I have no problems with that... it's the intended use of the word "ERROR" when it isn't an error that bothers me.
Nothing you have done to this point bothers me... you had a question about your notes... and I simply have given you my opinion about those that describe notes like this as errors...
Please let me clarify that I do not think that YOU are ruining the hobby... not in a long shot.. I believe that people that SELL these notes using the term ERROR are ruining the hobby. There is a very large difference. I'm sorry if you misconstrued my words to think that YOU were ruining the hobby... that is not the case... I was just asking you not to join the ranks of such deplorable sales people. As it stands my impression of you still holds of a stand up individual and I hope I have not discouraged you from this hobby... but I also want it to be clear at no point in any of my threads was I ever claiming that YOU are ruining this hobby... I will be a lot more careful with what I say, but I think you must not interpret things so personally against you.

Simple rule: If the notaphilic value is at least double face value, keep it.
At an average inflation rate of 4% over 40 years, the actual buying power of the note will only be about 20% of what it is now, in 40 years' time. That would be compensated for, if the notaphilic value covers the loss in value due to inflation.
That explains why interesting lower face value notes tend to be collected, rather than higher face value notes.
