My mistake. This was not advertised as an L. I happened upon it when I was searching for 1864 L. It appeared in the listing. I have edited my original message.
I may have been too hasty in accepting the first replies and assuming this to be a fake. I hope that some of the other members with expertise in Indian Heads will render their opinions. I would like to know that if this is a real uncirculated coin, what caused the pitted surface on the nose and cheek, the extra metal on and around the date, and the extra metal on the rim?

Quote: what caused the pitted surface Die flow, VLDS Quote: the extra metal on and around the date No such thing as "extra metal". again die flow. When a crack in the die happens the metal has to go somewhere... Quote: the extra metal on the rim? again VLDS Cud ( http://coins.about.com/od/coinsglos...ined.htmthe) metal has to flow.....think of it this

If this was reported as stated. What is the next step to correct the "mistake?" Quote: I hope that some of the other members with expertise in Indian Heads will render their opinions. I would like to know that if this is a real uncirculated coin, Your kidding. Some of the expert members did reply.

Yes I saw that there were four replies while I was composing my previous reply. I seem to be getting in deeper and deeper with this. I am looking for an ebay phone number to contact them.

Let's not pile on the op! This is foremost a LEARNING site. While I agree that he/she may have,"jumped the gun" in reporting this seller, the basic concept of concern was there. yooper, if I may, move on and keep up the good fight.

Yooper, I think you are being a little too hard on yourself, Yes, you questioned the authenticity of the coin, but it was others who 'jumped the gun' and convinced you it was a fake. So there is plenty of blame to go around. Take it as a learning experience and move on. Also, when you ask a question on the forum don't always assume the first response is necessarily the correct answer. The members of this forum have varying degrees of expertise so, it is better to wait until a number of members respond before forming an opinion.

I have talked to ebay on the phone and asked them to remove my report which they did. I also informed them that there was an earlier report on this item that was placed in error. They assured me that neither report would have a negative effect on the seller. I also contacted the seller by email to apologize for submitting the report and to inform them that I had the report removed. I also asked them to let me know if there were any problems over this issue from ebay and I would do whatever was necessary to clean up my mess.
