It is pretty normal, I've been with this one for about 15 yrs and I'm just waiting to see how the 74 aluminum cent goes as far as auction. This one is .700 .300 copper/ zinc

Quote: This one is .700 .300 copper/ zinc XRF has confirmed this? .950 cu,.050 tin/zinc is more likely.

I'm still a little nervous about sending in my 70\30 brass. I want to really wait to see if the guys with the aluminum might be able to change the tide about owning these patterns.

I'm confused here. Could you provide us with a bit of back-story on your coin?

Well I will try to sum it up, this cent belonged to my mother and she kept it in her jewerly box at the time that I seen it 1994 and I asked her about it she said that she got it from the bank and like the color so she kept it. Well she passed in 2010 and I didn't even know that she still had it. So I acquired the cent and did some research and believe its unique.

My mother worked for N.Y.C.HRA dept for 18 yrs and frequently did banking transactions and she resided on Staten Island.

Have you had this coin analyzed by XRF or another analytical quantitative method, yes or no? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and your pictures do not prove that it is anything more than an ordinary 1974 cent. 70/30 would be a yellow brass but that coin has the color of any other normal alloy cent.

Quote: .950 cu,.050 tin/zinc is more likely. .95 Cu .05 Zinc even more likely, they removed the last of the tin in the cents in 1963.

Sorry yes maybe I'm jumping to conclusions about it. Its a different color metal as I seen 1000,s of cents in my day and worked as a handy man for 20 of those yrs and seen many brasses but I am going to submit it and let the critic begin because I don't have the answers either.its all speculations until proven, the myth. Thanks forum for your insight.
