This is such a cool lot for rare book collectors and collectors of Rare Gold, I received this from the Numismatic Bibliomania Society E-Syllum newsletter 3/17/2014. HERITAGE TO OFFER 1850 ECKFELDT-DUBOIS WITH GOLD SAMPLE Mark Borckardt of Heritage Auctions submitted the following note for numismatic bibliophiles. Thanks. -Editor The rare book division of Heritage Auctions currently has an 1850 copy of New Varieties of Gold and Silver Coins by Eckfeldt and Dubois, with the gold samples on page 45. This is a presentation copy to George W. Edelman, deputy treasurer of the U.S. Assay Office in New York. Internet bidding ends on April 1, and this is not an April FoolÂ's joke! No - not quite, but you do get two examples mounted in a board in the book, and it's inscribed by one of the authors. All of the coins plated would make my head explode - just having two coins albeit small California fractional pieces, is good enough, no doubt to the authenticity of these two often counterfeited coins.
