Spectacular coin, AU-55. Looks to have some field issues though, likely from a rusted die.

I hope you didn't buy a details grade, they can be hard to sell

I'm blown away John. Wow!
I'm going with AU53. Looks to be NGC. It does appear to be a rusted die but one hammer of a strike :-)

Really, mkman123, that's your commentary on this coin?
AU-50 is my guess.
Johnny, I've been following your gold acquisitions for some time now, hoping to somehow follow in your footsteps. With this beauty, game over. Well done.

Thank you all for your comments!! I will post some more pictures when it arrives and I can see it in hand. Quote: I hope you didn't buy a details grade, they can be hard to sell mkman, did you read my initial post? I mentioned the coin was problem free(aka no details grade). I also disagree with your statement. In order to help fund this purchase, I sold my 1811 vf details ex jewelry piece. In a 24 hour ebay auction, it sold for $400 more than what I paid for it a year ago. The fact of the matter is MOST of the pre 1834 gold coins have problems, so folks on a budget will buy problem examples because they are more available and affordable for a type set. I do agree though that problem free examples are always a better bet, and will have strong interest, especially due to their scarcity. thank you for your input. I will reveal the grade tommorow.

All these early Half Eagles and Eagles are extraordinarily tough to find and even problem examples get high interest.

This is a unobtainable coin for me. It looks like a very solid strike and I don't think it had circulated much. However I think it should be a details grade because It has rub marks in the fields.
