No, this coin has bold N reverse. It is a fake.

Agree with others - date is comically off!! The N in "ONE" on the back is bogus too - though the date is a sure giveaway.

Thanks all. I am a novice but the date is what looked all wrong to me. However, I have been wrong before. Didn't know about the N so this is another thing for me to look for.
The bad picture and the sellers info also made me suspicious.

How does one report this sort of thing to ebay? I'm happy to take the initiative but don't know the process. From other posts I've read - ebay is great at delisting these types of auctions and banning the sellers if they do this more than once.

Here we go again! How can you make out a proper evaluation with the pictures provided? IMO

To bpoc1 - this one is blatantly obvious - do agree that there are others that are much more difficult. This is an easy one though.

I am certainly not going to report this as I jumped to a conclusion too quickly once before and made a report that I shouldn't have. If in doubt I think it is better not to report an item.
I asked the seller for a close up before I posted this. I will post it if I get one.
I am not trying to stir things up here, I was only asking for opinions before I considered bidding.

Quote: I was only asking for opinions before I considered bidding. Here's another opinion--only bid on an 1877 slabbed by an approved TPG--and checks out in every way.

dvcollector, thanks for the advice. Your right of course. More lessons learned. I seem to be learning a lot of them this week

Not a chance My suggestion, when considering more expensive coins and/or coins known to be counterfeited is to look at slabbed coins and look closely at the date, lettering etc. and do comparisons. Also google is your friend as far as what to look for; or of course buy a certified coin (but that's no fun). I prefer learning all about the coin and buying raw. Some coins really must be bought in plastic though, I'm afraid to say.

Wow - this one went through to completion for north of $400 - a huge bargain if it were a real coin. Someone will be in for some substantial disappointment ......
