Just a quick question... I am having difficulty finding information on whether or not San Fransisco Silver Eagles are still in production. I heard on Art & Coin TV, that these were produced during the month of January and February only. The Government Mint Web site only lists West Point coins for sale, not San F. Any truth to the rumor?

The "S" mint ASEs are not actual mint marked S coins. The San Fran mint and West Point mint both produce the "bullion" coins shipped in green monster boxes, but do not put a mint mark on them. The monster boxes are sealed with bands marked either San Fran or West Point. If those boxes are shipped to a TPG un opened, they will slab them and give them either an "S"or "W"designation. If you remove them from the slabs, while they ARE different coins from different mints, there is no way to tell that. So to call it a San Fran ASE is kind f a misnomer. That is why you do not see a San Fran coin listed for sale on the mints site. You can only get an "S" coin in the after market.

The West Point coin you see offered for sale on the mints site is a different type of ASE. That is the burnished uncirculated coin with the W mint mark. That is a collectors coin. Different animal.

Now, all that to say this. If San Fran produced all the ASEs they were going to make by the end of Feb, then yeah, thats it.

Unless they've switched gears from people liking both, sf only does it when West Point can't keep up. Judging from how many get milk spots now I'd say they've accelerated how fast they can make them. Combined with lower demand and I wouldn't be expecting many of the sf eagles by comparison. We might not be too far away from a year where they do none

Thanks to both, for your response. Just a note to Smokeriderdon, I am aware of all the specifics regarding mint marked or not Silver Eagles at all the mint locations, my only concern was whether or not San Fransisco was still minting them since the end of Feb. My wife has been suggesting to me that I purchase more of the PCGS First Strike MS70's while they are still available. Thanks for all the info though, it's still much appreciated!
